The truth about spa filters…you may be shocked!

In reality this is more accurate for a ‘Pleated Cartridge’ POOL filter, but the statement has just ‘carried-over’ to include spas & hot tubs as well. The filters are made of the same material but there are some significant differences between a Pool & Spa environment:-

The volume of water ‘per person’ in a small domestic pool is significantly larger than in a hot tub – a small family pool with say 20,000 litres of water ’shared amongst’ a family of 6 gives more than 3,300 litres per person, an average six seat hot tub with 1,300 litres of water gives just over 200 litres per person – in other words you would need 100 people in the small family pool to be equivalent to having 6 in the hot tub! The temperature that a hot tub/spa operates at is significantly higher than that of a swimming pool

How to Take Care of Your Hot Tub, Spa & Swim Spa Filters

Nothing is as important for hot tub water quality as your filtering system. You should clean your filters every couple of weeks and soak clean them in Filter Cartridge Cleaner

Rotate your spa filters

Use this filter rotation method: while cleaning your dirty filter, swap it with a previously cleaned and dried spare. Allowing filters to dry completely after soak-cleaning will increase filter effectiveness and extend the life of the filter.

Invest in a Pre Filter for your hose pipe. Only use a product like our Filter Cartridge Cleaner which is designed for cleaning pleated filter cartridges.

When cleaning, always rotate out your filters with a clean, dry spare.

The high water pressure will damage the REEMAY filter media.

For most, the possibility of completely building your own in ground swimming pool from start to finish without any outside help is not going to be a reality.
That being said , one of the first things you will need to do is understand all the different phases of building an inground swimming pool.

Next you will have to decide which parts of the job you can handle yourself and which parts will be necessary to sub contract out.
Finding good sub contractors that know what they are doing can be tough if you don’t know where to start.

Probably the easiest way to locate sub contractors is to visit a site where a swimming pool is being constructed.

Ask some of the people on the project who is in charge. Spend a little time talking to the foreman and find out if he is working “in house” for the pool contractor or if he is a sub contractor.
If you find that the foreman is a sub contractor, you’re in a good spot to find all the sub contractors you will need to contract your own in ground swimming pool.

If you decide contracting your own inground swimming pool is the way you want to go , it may be a good idea to visit several pool construction sites and learn as much about the process as you can before you begin your own pool.
Many pool companies use sub contractors for certain parts of the pool project. Some pool companies sub contract out the entire job, acting only as a sales agent between the homeowner and the sub contractors.

Many sub contractors will work for several different pool companies as it is difficult for just one pool company to keep a specific crew busy all the time.

You may be able to save a great deal of money contracting your own swimming pool.
Some pool companies add as much as 100% to the actual cost involved in building an inground pool.

You probably won’t be able to build the pool for half price as pool companies usually get good discounts from their sub contractors. They are probably able to get pool kits and equipment much cheaper than a homeowner can get as well. Distributors and sub contractors give pool companies good prices because of the volume they do.
You will have to be careful choosing sub contractors for your pool project as well. A careless sub contractor can end up costing you more than you save.

Make sure the sub contractors you choose are licensed and bonded. This will give you some recourse should you find a problem in their work.
Get references for the sub contractors you choose whenever possible. Hiring a pool consultant may be a good way to go. He doesn’t charge so much that you can’t save money and he is knowledgeable about all aspects of pool building. If he inspects the work after each phase of the project has been performed, he will be able to catch a problem before things go to far to be repaired.

Checking the reputation of the sub contractors is very important. One mistake can easily eat up all the savings you are anticipating by contracting the pool project yourself.

Some things to keep in mind

The layout and digging of a vinyl liner pool are the most critical parts of the job. If either of these don’t turn out just right, the job is off to a bad start and is probably going to cost additional money to straighten out.

when building a “gunite” or “shotcrete” pool the gunite crew is probably the most critical crew on the job. Again any mistakes here will be very costly to repair. With a gunite pool even if the dig is off the pool can still be repaired fairly easy, perhaps even with no additional costs.
Every phase of the pool needs to be inspected thoroughly before the next phase begins. Any problems need to be corrected before work resumes.
I know I stated earlier that pool companies may add as much as 100% to their cost of the project, but when you consider the amount of risk involved in something going extremely wrong, you may decide it’s better to just sell the job to them. That way the pool company accepts all responsibility for your ingorund swimming pool.

Contrary to popular opinion, swimming pools do not have to be ‘natural’ in order to be eco friendly what so ever. Pools with solar panels, pool filters, or heat pumps have been available o decades. eco friendly swimming pools solutions are very much in demand at the moment and people are far more conscious of the fact that they don’t want to hurt the plant by building something as vein as their own swimming pool.
